NADRA to Issue First CNIC Free for Citizens Aged Eighteen and Above

by Mahnoor Arif

In a major public service initiative, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that all citizens aged 18 and above can now obtain their first Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) free of cost. The decision aims to make identity registration more accessible and affordable for everyone, particularly for young adults and individuals living in remote areas.

Under this new policy, applicants can visit any NADRA registration centre across the country to complete the process. Once the application is submitted, the CNIC will be issued within 15 days, allowing new registrants to receive their identification cards without any financial burden.

This step reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and citizen empowerment by ensuring that every eligible individual has access to a valid national identity. Having a CNIC is essential for accessing a wide range of services in Pakistan, from education and employment to healthcare and voting rights.

NADRA also confirmed that renewal, Smart NIC, and urgent processing services will continue under the existing updated fee structure for citizens who require faster delivery or upgraded ID options.

The initiative is expected to significantly increase the registration of first-time CNIC holders, helping strengthen national records and improve public service delivery. By removing financial barriers, NADRA is taking an important step toward digital inclusion and ensuring that every Pakistani can fully participate in the country’s social and economic systems.
