Several countries, including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Tajikistan, have demonstrated a strong interest in importing meat and rice from Pakistan, indicating a growing demand for Pakistani agricultural products in international markets. The development was shared by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, during a high level meeting with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).

The minister revealed that Tajikistan alone is seeking to import nearly 100,000 tonnes of meat from Pakistan, while Gulf countries and Malaysia are also exploring long term import arrangements. He described the interest as a significant opportunity to enhance Pakistan’s agricultural exports and bolster the national economy.

Speaking at the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed the importance of aligning Pakistan’s production, processing, and regulatory systems with international standards. He said meeting global quality, hygiene, and certification requirements is essential to remain competitive in overseas markets.

The minister highlighted the government’s vision of building an export driven economy, adding that empowering local farmers, processors, and exporters is key to sustainable growth. He noted that increased exports of meat and rice could create jobs, improve rural incomes, and boost foreign exchange earnings.

During the discussion, exporters raised concerns related to free trade agreements, high logistics costs, and the protection of agricultural land. They urged the government to address these issues to ensure smooth and profitable exports.

In response, the government assured participants of full support and promised follow-up actions to resolve challenges faced by exporters. Officials said coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors would help Pakistan enhance its presence in global food markets and unlock its full agricultural export potential.
