Murree to Witness Snowfall for 6 Days

by Hameed

Murree and other nearby hill stations in the Galliyat region are likely to receive snowfall from January 17 to January 22, according to a weather forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The forecast says that temperatures will remain very cold in the coming days. Minimum temperatures may fall as low as minus 3 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures are expected to stay between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius before snowfall begins. As the weather system moves in, conditions are expected to become colder, increasing the chances of snow in higher areas.

Authorities have warned both residents and tourists to be prepared for difficult travel conditions during this period. Snowfall may cause road closures, traffic delays and slippery roads, especially during nighttime and early morning hours. Drivers could face reduced visibility and challenging driving conditions in hilly areas.

Tourists planning to visit Murree or surrounding regions are advised to take extra precautions. Vehicles should be properly prepared for winter travel, including snow chains, sufficient fuel, and emergency supplies. Travelers are also encouraged to regularly check weather and traffic updates before and during their journey.

To ensure public safety, local administrations have started special preparations under the “Mission Safe Winter” initiative. These measures aim to manage traffic, clear roads, assist stranded travelers, and reduce risks during the expected extended snowfall period.

People are advised to stay alert, follow official instructions, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy snow to ensure their safety.
