Punjab Announces Ramazan Savings Festival with Subsidised Food in Lahore

by Mahnoor Arif

The Punjab government has announced a three-day Ramazan Savings Festival in Lahore, set to take place at Jilani Park from February 13 to 15.

The festival, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to provide affordable access to essential food items and create a family-friendly environment ahead of the holy month of Ramazan.

Under this initiative, visitors can purchase staple items such as flour, ghee, pulses, sugar, rice, fruits, and vegetables at subsidised rates. Relief stalls will be carefully monitored to ensure fair pricing, quality, and safety of all products, providing financial relief to households preparing for the month-long observances.

The government emphasized that the festival is part of broader efforts to support families and make Ramazan shopping more accessible for all income groups.

Beyond shopping, the festival will host cultural and recreational activities celebrating Punjab’s rich heritage. Visitors can enjoy performances, exhibitions, and interactive events designed for families and children, making the festival not just about savings but also a community gathering.

In addition, the Council of Islamic Ideology has announced the Sadaqatul Fitr and Fidyah rates for this year, which range from Rs200 to Rs5,400 per person, depending on financial capacity.

These rates guide charitable contributions during Ramazan, ensuring that all eligible individuals can participate in fulfilling religious obligations.

With the Ramazan Savings Festival, the Punjab government aims to combine financial relief, community engagement, and cultural celebration, helping residents prepare for the holy month in a convenient, affordable, and festive manner.
