Healthcare Transformation! Rs 50 Billion Masterplan Approved for Civil Hospital Karachi

by Mahnoor Arif

The government of Sindh has approved a major plan to upgrade Civil Hospital Karachi, one of the oldest and largest public hospitals in Karachi. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has given initial approval for a master plan worth Rs 100 billion, while Rs 50 billion has been set aside as a provincial grant for the project.

The plan aims to improve healthcare facilities and increase the hospital’s capacity. At present, Civil Hospital Karachi has around 2,142 beds. Under the new plan, 500 more beds will be added to meet the growing number of patients.

One of the key parts of the project is the construction of the Abdul Sattar Edhi Medical Tower. This new building will help expand medical services and provide modern treatment facilities. In addition, new wards will be developed, including medical, surgical, outpatient, burns, and jail wards.

The project also focuses on upgrading infrastructure. Roads around the hospital will be improved to make access easier for patients and emergency services. Authorities have said that the historic buildings of the hospital will be carefully preserved during the redevelopment work.

A special board will be formed to monitor and manage the project. Officials believe this upgrade will improve healthcare services and provide better treatment facilities to thousands of patients who visit the hospital every day.
