Pakistan has won one silver and two bronze medals at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2025, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from July 20 to 29. The event brought together students from 68 countries to compete in economics, finance, and business case challenges.

Ameenah Babar earned the silver medal, while Sarim Haseeb and Zarar Tariq took home bronze medals for Pakistan. The five-member national team was chosen through the National Economics Competition and included Ameenah Babar from Trinity School Lahore, Zarar Tariq and Sarim Haseeb from TNS Lahore, Sarah Shahzad from Beaconhouse Islamabad, and Aayan Niazi from Karachi Grammar School.

The team was led and coached by Shahwali Najmi, with the Punjab chief minister’s office covering all participation expenses. This support allowed the students to focus on their preparation and represent Pakistan with pride on the global stage.

The IEO aims to encourage young people to think critically about economic and financial issues while collaborating on solutions to real-world problems. Participants face challenging tasks that test their analytical skills, creativity, and teamwork.

Pakistan’s strong performance in this year’s Olympiad reflects the country’s growing interest and investment in economic education. It also highlights the talent and potential of young Pakistani students in competing internationally.

The next edition of the International Economics Olympiad will be held in China in 2026, offering another opportunity for Pakistan to showcase its skills and build on this year’s success. The achievement in Baku is being celebrated as a proud moment for the nation and a step forward in promoting academic excellence.
