Pakistan’s Sesame Exports to China Increased 87%, Reaches $68.5 Million in Nine Months

Pakistan’s agricultural exports are making impressive gains in the Chinese market. The country’s sesame exports to China have surged by a remarkable 87% year-on-year, reaching $68.5 million during the January to September 2025 period, according to official data from China’s customs department.

But the revenue increase only tells part of the story. The actual volume of sesame exports has grown even more dramatically. Export quantities jumped from 23.9 million kilograms last year to an impressive 55.6 million kilograms this year – representing a massive 132% increase. This means Pakistan isn’t just earning more because of higher prices; it’s genuinely shipping much larger quantities to Chinese buyers.

So what’s behind this extraordinary growth? Officials point to several contributing factors. First, Pakistan has seen improved agricultural output in sesame production, with farmers dedicating more land and resources to this profitable crop.

Second, stronger bilateral trade ties between Pakistan and China have made it easier to access Chinese markets and meet their quality standards.

Third, Pakistani companies have begun collaborating with Chinese firms on value-added processing, which increases the product’s value and market appeal.

The registration of Pakistani sesame companies in China has also exploded. There are now 177 Pakistani sesame companies officially registered to do business in China – a clear indication of how seriously Pakistani exporters are taking this market opportunity.

Looking ahead, the outlook remains positive. With robust Chinese demand for edible oils and health products continuing to grow, and sesame being a key ingredient in both categories, experts expect Pakistan’s sesame exports to keep climbing in the coming months and years.
