Pakistan Navy Assists Indian and Indonesian Crew After Vessel Stranded in Arabian Sea

by Mahnoor Arif

The Pakistan Navy provided timely humanitarian assistance to the stranded offshore vessel MV Gautam in the Arabian Sea. The ship suffered a major technical failure while sailing from Oman to India. It was carrying seven crew members, six Indian nationals and one Indonesian citizen.

On receiving a distress call from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai, the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) quickly responded. They deployed PMSA Ship Kashmir to the location. The rescue team boarded the vessel and provided essential support, including food, fresh water, medical aid, and technical assistance to restore critical systems on board.

This swift operation ensured the safety of the entire crew and helped stabilise the vessel at sea. The Pakistan Navy highlighted this as part of its commitment to maritime safety, search and rescue duties, and regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean.

Such humanitarian missions show that navies often work together during emergencies despite political tensions. The successful assistance to the Indian vessel has been appreciated by maritime authorities in the region.

The crew is now safe, and further arrangements for the vessel are underway. This incident once again proves the importance of international cooperation for safety at sea.
