Karachi Bans Rickshaws and Taxis in Major Markets Till Chand Raat

by Mahnoor Arif

Karachi traffic authorities have announced temporary restrictions on rickshaws and taxis in key shopping areas ahead of Chand Raat, aiming to manage heavy traffic and ensure smooth movement during peak hours. The measures will remain in effect until the evening of Chand Raat.

Major commercial roads, including Rashid Minhas Road and Tariq Road, will be off-limits to rickshaws and taxis. Alternative routes have been designated for commercial traffic to minimize disruption. Access to high-traffic zones, such as Saddar Fawara Chowk to GPO and Singer Chowk to Rehbil Nisa, will also be restricted to ensure safety and reduce congestion.

Authorities are closely monitoring critical points, including Clifton Bridge, Teen Talwar, and Race Course, which are prone to bottlenecks during busy shopping periods. Additional police officers have been deployed to manage traffic flow, assist pedestrians, and maintain law and order.

Traffic police officials have advised shoppers and commuters to plan their travel accordingly and use public transport where possible. The restrictions are part of broader efforts to avoid gridlock and allow families to safely enjoy festive shopping and celebrations.

Officials emphasized that these measures are temporary and designed to benefit both vendors and the public during one of Karachi’s busiest shopping evenings. With careful planning and public cooperation, authorities hope to maintain order and ensure a smooth Chand Raat experience.
