South Asia’s Cheapest Petrol Currently on Sale At Pumps in Balochistan

by Mahnoor Arif

The Balochistan government has fixed the price of Iranian smuggled petrol at Rs280 per litre, making it the cheapest petrol currently available in South Asia. This decision was taken to control rising prices after some sellers increased rates following the recent hike in official fuel prices across Pakistan.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti chaired a high-level meeting in Quetta where the new rate was announced. Officials warned that anyone caught selling Iranian petrol above Rs280 per litre will face strict legal action. Kalat Deputy Commissioner Munir Ahmed Durrani said authorities will closely monitor the market to ensure full compliance.

The government made it clear that this cheap Iranian petrol can only be sold inside Balochistan. It will not be allowed to be transported or sold in other provinces. This step aims to prevent misuse and protect the official fuel market in the rest of the country.

Many people in the border areas of Balochistan depend on Iranian petrol because it is much cheaper than the official rate of around Rs378 per litre in other parts of Pakistan. Before this cap, some dealers were charging between Rs300 and Rs360 per litre.

The move is expected to give immediate relief to drivers, transporters, and common citizens in the province. It also shows the provincial government’s efforts to regulate the fuel market and stop profiteering.

Officials say they will carry out regular checks to enforce the fixed price.
