Online Attendance Made Mandatory in Govt Schools

by Mahnoor Arif

The Punjab government has made online attendance compulsory for both students and teachers in all government schools. The new rule aims to bring more transparency, better record-keeping, and improve regular attendance across the province.

According to the Punjab Education Department, every student and teacher must now mark their attendance through the School Education System (SES) or the online portal every day. If anyone fails to mark attendance online, they will be counted as absent. Schools that do not upload complete and correct data will face strict action.

The government has set April 20, 2026, as the final deadline for full compliance. All schools must update student admissions and daily attendance records by this date. Monitoring teams will visit schools to check the system. School heads will be held responsible for any mistakes or missing information.

This step is part of efforts to reduce fake or manual attendance records and ensure real accountability. Officials believe online attendance will help parents know the truth about their children’s presence in school and improve overall education quality.

The Education Department has directed all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) to make sure 100 percent of the data is uploaded on time. Secretary of Education has shown serious concern over delays in the past. Schools are now working hard to meet the deadline and follow the new digital system properly.
