Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam presented King Charles III with a special cricket bat signed by members of the Pakistan national team during a meeting at Clarence House in London. The gesture highlighted the sporting and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The Pakistan cricket squad, along with Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and members of the coaching and support staff, met the British monarch on September 2. Babar Azam personally handed over the signed bat to King Charles on behalf of the team.
The meeting came during Pakistan’s ongoing Test tour of England, which has been challenging for the visitors. England have already taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series, leaving Pakistan facing the difficult task of avoiding a series clean sweep in the final Test.
Despite the difficult cricketing circumstances, the meeting provided a positive moment for the Pakistani players. King Charles spoke with members of the squad and encouraged them ahead of the final Test, scheduled to begin at Edgbaston in Birmingham on September 9.
The presentation of the signed bat was more than a simple gift. It represented Pakistan’s cricketing heritage and offered a memorable gesture of friendship between the two countries.
Babar later described the experience of meeting the monarch as special, jokingly referring to Charles as the “real king.”
The Pakistan team will now turn its attention back to cricket as it prepares for the final Test, hoping to finish the England tour on a stronger note.
