Young doctors staged a protest at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on May 9, 2026, against the recent increase in petroleum prices. Members of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) said rising fuel costs have made life very difficult for doctors and other salaried people.
The doctors carried banners and chanted slogans demanding immediate relief from the government. They highlighted that higher petrol and diesel prices have sharply increased their daily commuting costs, food prices, and electricity bills. Many doctors now find it hard to manage household expenses on their current salaries.
Speaking to the media, YDA leaders said the continuous rise in inflation is badly affecting the middle class. “Doctors and common citizens are struggling to survive,” one protester said. They demanded an immediate increase in basic pay and other allowances to match the rising cost of living.
The young doctors warned that if the government does not take quick action, their protest will spread to major hospitals in Lahore, Karachi, and other cities. They also appealed to the authorities to review the latest fuel price hike and provide some relief to the public.
The protest caused minor disruption in hospital routines for a few hours. This is the latest demonstration against increasing inflation and fuel prices in the federal capital.
