National Assembly Becomes Pakistan’s First AI-Enabled Parliamentary System

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan has taken a major step towards digital governance as the National Assembly becomes the country’s first parliament to adopt an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled system.

The new AI system was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and the National Information Technology Board (NITB). It aims to modernize legislative processes, increase efficiency, and bring greater transparency to parliamentary work.

The AI-powered platform offers several advanced features, including smart document search, automatic bill summarization, speech assistance for lawmakers, AI-generated legislative drafts, and intelligent meeting management. Parliamentarians will now be able to review long and complex bills within minutes instead of hours. The system can also provide summaries in both Urdu and English, making it easier for members to understand and discuss important legislation.

Officials believe this initiative will save valuable time, reduce paperwork, and help lawmakers make better-informed decisions. It is also expected to improve overall productivity during sessions and committee meetings.

This development reflects the government’s commitment to using modern technology in governance. The National Assembly’s move towards AI is being seen as a historic milestone that could set an example for other provincial assemblies in Pakistan.
