Pakistan has offered Gulf countries to store their emergency oil reserves at Gwadar Port as part of a major new initiative to develop a strategic Energy City at the port.
According to senior government officials, the plan includes building large storage facilities for crude oil, LNG (liquefied natural gas), and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). These reserves would be available for Pakistan to use during emergencies, including wartime situations or supply disruptions.
Kuwait has already shown a strong interest in the project. Saudi Arabia is also being actively engaged for investment in both refinery and storage facilities. The government believes this initiative will attract significant foreign investment and strengthen Pakistan’s energy security.
The development of an Energy City at Gwadar is a key part of Pakistan’s long-term vision to transform the port into a major regional energy and logistics hub. It will not only boost trade but also create thousands of jobs and support related industries.
The government is also identifying additional coastal sites for future ports to further expand maritime infrastructure. This ambitious plan reflects Pakistan’s efforts to use its strategic geographical location to become an important energy player in the region.
