Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan have seen major ups and downs in the past month. According to official records, fuel prices were increased three times but reduced only twice, resulting in a net increase for consumers.
High-speed diesel saw the biggest change. It went up by a total of Rs. 61.16 per litre across the three increases, while the two reductions brought it down by only Rs. 11.80 per litre. This left a net increase of Rs. 49.36 per litre in diesel prices. Petrol prices also followed a similar pattern of frequent changes.
Despite the recent reductions, consumers are still paying more than Rs. 400 per litre for both petrol and diesel. This has become a heavy burden on the common man, especially those who rely on daily travel for work and business.
The constant fluctuations in fuel prices are adding more pressure to already high inflation in the country. Higher transport costs are increasing the prices of daily goods, vegetables, and other essential items, making life more difficult for middle and lower-income families.
Experts believe the government needs to bring more stability in fuel prices to provide relief to citizens and control rising inflation.
