Spotify to Let Users Create Their Own Music With AI

by Mahnoor Arif

Spotify is taking a big step into artificial intelligence by allowing users to create their own music. The streaming giant has signed a major licensing agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG) that will let Premium users generate AI-powered song covers and remixes of songs from participating artists.

This new tool, expected to launch as a paid add-on for Spotify Premium subscribers, focuses on responsible AI use. Artists and songwriters will have full control, they can choose to join the program or not. The system ensures proper consent, credit, and fair compensation for artists every time their music is used to create AI versions. This creates a new way for artists to earn money beyond regular streaming royalties.

Along with this AI feature, Spotify also introduced “Reserved”, a new service that gives top fans early access to concert tickets. Dedicated listeners identified through their streaming activity will get a chance to buy up to two tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

The AI music creation tool is seen as a major development in the music industry. It aims to boost fan engagement while protecting artists’ rights. Launch date and exact pricing have not been announced yet.
