Switzerland has confirmed that the United States and Iran will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, June 19, at the Bürgenstock resort in central Switzerland. The Swiss Foreign Ministry said it is acting as a neutral facilitator for the important event.
The ministry has been coordinating closely with the US, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar. The luxury mountain resort overlooking Lake Lucerne was proposed by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as both the US and Iran. It was chosen for its privacy and strong security features.
This MoU aims to end months of conflict that began earlier in 2026. It is expected to ease tensions, reopen the Strait of Hormuz for oil shipping, and open the door for broader talks on issues like sanctions and nuclear matters. The agreement is sometimes called the Islamabad Memorandum due to Pakistan’s key role in mediation.
The Bürgenstock resort previously hosted high-level peace talks, including a Ukraine summit in 2024. Officials from all sides are expected to attend the signing ceremony.
This step marks a major diplomatic breakthrough between the two countries. Many hope it will bring stability to the Middle East, reduce risks to global energy supplies, and lead to lasting peace. The world is watching closely as the historic signing approaches.
