Islamabad has emerged as the leading candidate to host the next round of technical negotiations between the United States and Iran, with diplomatic sources indicating that the talks are likely to take place on July 11. While Switzerland’s Bürgenstock Resort remains under consideration, Pakistan’s capital is currently viewed as the preferred venue, although an official announcement has yet to be made.
The upcoming discussions are expected to build on recent diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran. The talks will reportedly focus on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, frozen Iranian assets, and broader regional security concerns. Negotiators are also expected to discuss maintaining stability in the Strait of Hormuz and preserving the recently agreed ceasefire in Lebanon.
Pakistan, along with Qatar, has been playing an active role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides. Earlier rounds of technical discussions were held in Switzerland and Doha, where officials described the negotiations as constructive despite the absence of a major breakthrough.
According to diplomatic sources, the composition of Iran’s delegation is expected to be confirmed after the conclusion of funeral ceremonies for the country’s late Supreme Leader. If Islamabad is officially selected, it would further reinforce Pakistan’s growing role as a neutral venue for high-level international diplomacy and regional peace initiatives.
Although officials from all sides remain cautious, the planned July 11 meeting is seen as another important step in keeping diplomatic channels open and advancing efforts toward a broader agreement between the United States and Iran.
