Hope at Sea! Largest ‘Global Sumud Flotilla’ of 70 Boats with 1,000 Volunteers Heads Toward G@z@

The largest-ever Global Sumud Flotilla has set sail from the port of Barcelona, Spain, heading toward Gaza. Around 70 boats carrying nearly 1,000 volunteers from 70 countries departed on April 12, 2026, in a major civilian effort to deliver urgent humanitarian aid.

Organisers say the flotilla aims to challenge Israel’s naval blockade and bring much-needed supplies, including food, medicine, and items for children. The mission includes medical aid and other essential goods to help people facing hardship in Gaza.

This is the second major attempt by the Global Sumud Flotilla. The previous mission in September 2025 had 42 boats and 462 participants. The current one is almost twice as large, reflecting growing international support. More boats are expected to join from ports in Italy, Greece, and other countries along the route.

Thousands of people gathered at Barcelona’s port to show solidarity as the boats left. Volunteers include activists, doctors, and ordinary citizens from around the world. Greenpeace has also joined the effort with its ship, the Arctic Sunrise.

The flotilla continues a long tradition of peaceful maritime missions trying to reach Gaza. Past attempts have faced challenges, including interception by Israeli forces. Organisers stress that this is a non-violent civilian mission focused on humanitarian aid and raising global awareness about the situation in Gaza.

Activists hope the large scale of this flotilla will draw worldwide attention and pressure for the safe passage of aid. The journey is expected to take several weeks, with stops planned along the way.

This mission reflects strong global solidarity with the people of Gaza amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The coming days will show how the flotilla progresses and whether it can deliver its message of hope and assistance.
