Former Pakistani Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has announced that he will once again join the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza. Despite being detained by Israeli forces during last year’s mission in 2025, the senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader is determined to participate in this year’s larger humanitarian effort.
In a powerful message on X, Senator Mushtaq declared, “Gaza, we are coming again.” He posted the message as the flotilla prepares to depart from Barcelona, Spain. This second attempt, often called Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0, is significantly bigger than the previous one, with nearly double the number of boats and volunteers.
The mission aims to break the naval blockade on Gaza and deliver urgent humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and essential supplies for civilians. Organisers say this year’s flotilla includes around 70 boats and nearly 1,000 volunteers from over 70 countries. It is one of the largest civilian maritime efforts in recent years to show global solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, who previously led the Pakistani delegation, received a hero’s welcome when he returned home after his release from detention in October 2025. His decision to join again highlights his strong commitment to the Palestinian cause.
The flotilla continues a long tradition of peaceful activism. Activists hope the large scale of this mission will draw worldwide attention and put pressure for safe passage of humanitarian aid.
The journey from Barcelona is expected to take several weeks. The coming days will show how this bold civilian effort unfolds amid ongoing challenges in the region.
