Iran Aims to Restore Majority of Refining Capability Within Two Months, Oil Ministry Official

by Mahnoor Arif

Iran has announced an ambitious plan to quickly repair its damaged oil refining and fuel distribution system. A senior oil ministry official said the country aims to bring back 70 to 80 percent of its pre-attack refining capacity within the next one to two months.

The statement was made by Deputy Oil Minister Mohammad Sadeq Azimifar. He told Iranian media that repair work has already started at several damaged sites. Emergency teams are clearing debris and replacing broken equipment. Some units at the Lavan refinery on Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf are expected to resume partial operations within about 10 days. Other facilities will be repaired step by step.

The damage happened after recent strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure. These attacks affected key refineries and fuel distribution networks, causing disruption in local fuel supply and raising concerns in global oil markets. The strikes pushed up international crude oil prices for a short time due to fears of reduced supply.

Azimifar said Iranian forces and contractors moved quickly after the attacks. He added that the goal is to stabilize fuel production and distribution as soon as possible to avoid further problems for the Iranian people.

Iran has one of the largest oil refining capacities in the Middle East. Restoring most of it quickly is important for the country’s economy, domestic fuel needs, and export plans. Full recovery to 100% capacity may take longer, but officials are confident about reaching the 70-80% target in the short term.

Analysts say successful and fast repairs could help calm oil markets and show Iran’s ability to recover from setbacks. However, the situation remains sensitive due to ongoing regional tensions.
