New Chinese Battery Can Let EVs Run 4 Trips Lahore to Islamabad on Single Charge

by Mahnoor Arif

Chinese researchers have made a breakthrough in electric vehicle (EV) battery technology. Scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences have developed a new solid-state lithium-metal battery that offers an impressive driving range of 1,000 to 1,500 kilometres on a single charge.

This range is enough for an electric vehicle to travel from Lahore to Islamabad and back nearly four times without recharging. The distance between Lahore and Islamabad on the motorway is around 370 km, so this battery could easily cover multiple long trips.

The new battery has an energy density of 451.5 Wh/kg, which is more than double that of current popular lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. It also supports ultra-fast charging, it can be charged in roughly three minutes. The battery remained stable after 700 fast-charging cycles and successfully passed tough safety tests, including nail penetration.

If successfully commercialized, this Chinese battery technology could make electric vehicles far more practical for long-distance travel in countries like Pakistan.
