Sialkot, a busy industrial city in Pakistan, has become a big player in online business. According to recent statements by Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, 87% of Pakistan’s total trade transactions on Alibaba come from Sialkot. This is mainly driven by wholesale and export businesses. The city is well-known for making high-quality sports goods, surgical instruments, leather products, and musical instruments. These items are popular around the world.
Sialkot’s strong manufacturing base has helped it grow in digital commerce. Many local businesses use platforms like Alibaba.com to connect directly with global buyers. This has boosted exports and created new opportunities for small and medium enterprises. The city already contributes a large share to Pakistan’s total exports, and e-commerce is making it even stronger.
To support this growth, Ignite (under the Ministry of IT and Telecom) has partnered with a Mobilink Bank-led consortium, including CyberVision International, to set up the National Incubation Centre (NIC) Sialkot. The centre will help up to 25 startups every year with mentorship, funding links, business training, and market access.
It will focus on key areas such as e-commerce, sports technology, healthcare and surgical technology, manufacturing innovation, and digital solutions. This aligns with the government’s “Digital National Pakistan” vision to spread technology and entrepreneurship beyond big cities.
Experts believe NIC Sialkot will create jobs, improve industrial productivity, and help Pakistani businesses compete globally. Local entrepreneurs can now more easily turn good ideas into successful companies.
Sialkot’s success shows how traditional industries can benefit from digital tools. With continued support, the city is set to play an even bigger role in Pakistan’s export economy in the coming years.
