Vitol and Cnergyico Complete Pakistan’s Largest Single Marine Fuel Delivery

by Mahnoor Arif

Vitol and Cnergyico have achieved a major milestone in Pakistan’s energy and maritime sectors by completing the country’s largest single delivery of very low sulphur fuel oil. The operation signals a significant boost to Pakistan’s position as an emerging bunkering hub, offering international vessels a reliable source of cleaner marine fuel that meets strict global standards.

The shipment was delivered at Port Qasim to an MSC vessel, enabling large ships to cover longer international routes without the need for additional refuelling stops. This added convenience not only strengthens Pakistan’s appeal for global shipping lines but also enhances operational efficiency for vessels transiting through regional waters.

A key highlight of the delivery is that the fuel fully complies with IMO low-sulphur regulations and was produced from Cnergyico’s first large-scale batch using imported US crude. This marks an important advancement in local refining capabilities, showcasing Pakistan’s potential to support environmentally responsible maritime activity.

The operation also introduced another first: the Singapore-flagged barge that handled the delivery became the first vessel to load directly from Karachi Port Trust’s Oil Pier. This achievement reflects growing logistical sophistication and improved infrastructure within Pakistan’s ports.

Vitol has signaled plans to expand bunkering operations across major ports in the country, a move that could further strengthen Pakistan’s footprint in the regional shipping and energy markets.

As demand for compliant marine fuels continues to rise globally, this development positions Pakistan to play a more competitive and strategic role in international maritime logistics.
