Federal Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has thanked the public for cooperating with nighttime load management, saying the measures helped reduce electricity costs for consumers in August 2026.
According to the minister, the steps taken to manage electricity demand helped bring the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for August down from Rs2.0851 to Rs1.73 per unit. The reduction is estimated to have prevented an additional burden of around Rs10.6 billion on electricity consumers.
Leghari said domestic energy sources accounted for around 72 percent of Pakistan’s total electricity generation during August. Greater reliance on local resources helped reduce dependence on more expensive imported fuels, including imported coal and RLNG.
The minister also highlighted coordination between the Power and Petroleum Divisions, which helped arrange additional domestic gas supplies when international RLNG prices were high. He said better use of local energy resources helped limit pressure on electricity costs.
Leghari acknowledged that consumers had to cooperate with load-management measures and thanked them for their patience. He said continued coordination between consumers and government institutions would remain important as efforts continue to reduce electricity costs.
The government has been pursuing measures to lower power-generation costs and reduce pressure on consumers. The latest figures suggest that changes in the energy mix and increased use of domestic resources can have a direct impact on electricity costs.
The minister’s comments come as households and businesses continue to seek relief from high electricity bills and demand more affordable and reliable power supplies.
