14 International Cricket Legends Request Pakistan Govt. for Treatment of Imran Khan

by Mahnoor Arif

Fourteen former international cricket captains have jointly appealed to the Government of Pakistan to ensure proper medical treatment and humane conditions for former Prime Minister and cricket legend Imran Khan.

The letter, initiated by former Australian captain Greg Chappell, was addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In the appeal, the signatories expressed concern over reports about Khan’s health, particularly issues related to his eyesight and overall well being during his incarceration.

According to details shared publicly, the former captains requested that Khan be granted access to specialist medical care, regular family visits, and a fair legal process in accordance with international human rights standards. The signatories include prominent cricket figures from India, Australia, England, West Indies, and New Zealand, reflecting the global respect Khan commands in the cricketing community.

Imran Khan, who led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, remains one of the most recognized figures in international cricket history. Beyond his sporting achievements, he later served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 to 2022.

The letter emphasizes that principles such as dignity, justice, and respect should extend beyond the boundaries of sport. The former captains noted that while legal matters are for courts to decide, access to medical treatment and humane conditions are fundamental rights.

The appeal has sparked discussion both domestically and internationally regarding the treatment of high profile political figures and adherence to due process.
