Pakistan to Receive Saudi Oil Through Red Sea Port Due to Hormuz Closure

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan has received assurances from Saudi Arabia that oil supplies will continue through an alternative route after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The new arrangement involves shipments through the Red Sea port of Yanbu, helping Pakistan avoid possible disruptions in energy imports.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik met Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al Malki to discuss the situation and its possible impact on global oil markets. Officials reviewed supply chain risks and rising freight and insurance costs that often follow regional tensions.

According to government sources, at least one oil vessel has already been arranged to carry crude oil to Pakistan through the Red Sea route. Saudi authorities have reportedly assured priority support to meet Pakistan’s energy requirements if the crisis continues.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, and any blockage can sharply affect global supply and prices. Pakistan relies heavily on imported crude oil, making alternative supply lines critical during times of instability.

Both countries reaffirmed strong bilateral ties and close coordination in the energy sector. Officials say these steps are aimed at maintaining fuel availability, stabilizing domestic markets, and protecting the economy from sudden shocks in international oil trade.
