Eid ul Fitr in Pakistan Likely to be Observed on March 21, Suparco

Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that Eid ul Fitr in Pakistan is likely to be observed on March 21, 2026. Experts say there is a low chance of seeing the Shawwal crescent on March 19, which makes March 21 the more likely date for Eid celebrations.

According to SUPARCO, the new moon for the month of Shawwal will be born on March 19 at 06:23 Pakistan Standard Time. However, the age of the moon at sunset that day will be about 12 hours and 41 minutes. Astronomers say a crescent usually needs more time after birth to become visible to the naked eye. Because of this short age, sighting the moon on that evening may be difficult in most parts of the country.

If the moon is not sighted on March 19, the holy month of Ramadan will complete 30 days. In that case, Muslims across Pakistan will celebrate Eid on March 21.

However, the final decision will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for confirming moon sightings in the country. The committee collects reports from different regions and then officially announces the start of Shawwal.

Every year, Muslims in Pakistan wait for the moon sighting announcement with great excitement, as it marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid celebrations with prayers, family gatherings, and charity.
