“Petrol Prices in Pakistan Should Drop by at Least Rs. 200 After US-Iran Deal.” Senior Journalist Hamid Mir

Senior journalist Hamid Mir has demanded a big reduction in petrol prices in Pakistan following the US-Iran peace deal. He said the government should cut petrol prices by at least Rs200 per litre to give real relief to the people.

Reacting to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement, Mir posted on X that Pakistanis deserve this benefit after the major diplomatic success. Global oil prices have already fallen sharply after news of the deal. Brent crude dropped more than 4-5% in recent days, reaching around $82-83 per barrel as fears over supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz eased.

Pakistan imports most of its oil. Lower international prices usually lead to cheaper fuel at home. Currently, petrol costs about Rs373.78 per litre after a small reduction of Rs4 on June 13. A Rs200 cut would bring it down significantly and help reduce inflation and transport costs.

Experts say the deal, set to be signed in Geneva on June 19, will reopen key shipping routes and stabilise energy markets. This could save Pakistan millions of dollars on oil imports. Many people hope the government will pass on the full benefit quickly instead of keeping high taxes and levies.

Hamid Mir’s statement has sparked public debate. Citizens are waiting for the next petrol price announcement to see if relief comes.
