The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has reached a major milestone by recording the highest annual cargo handling volume in its 138-year history.

According to Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, KPT handled more cargo during the 2025-26 fiscal year than ever before, surpassing the previous record set in 2017-18.

The port also recorded its highest-ever container traffic, handling more than 2.65 million TEUs during the year.

Officials said the achievement reflects better port management, improved operational efficiency, and increased handling capacity.

The government believes ongoing efforts to modernise ports and strengthen logistics are helping Pakistan become a stronger regional trade and maritime hub.

The minister congratulated KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (R) Shahid Ahmed, port employees, and other stakeholders for their role in achieving the historic milestone.

He added that work will continue to improve port facilities, attract investment, and support the country’s growing trade sector.
