Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrob Adds Dedicated Space for Women and Children

by urooj Fatima

The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus service has introduced a dedicated section for women and children inside its buses, marked clearly as “Women and Children Only.” The new arrangement includes a physical partition designed to separate the reserved area from the rest of the bus.

According to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA), the initiative aims to improve the commuting experience for female passengers and children by providing greater privacy, comfort and safety during daily travel.

The reserved section is expected to be particularly useful during peak hours, when Metrobus services can become heavily crowded. By creating a clearly designated space, authorities hope to provide women and children with a more organized and comfortable environment while travelling.

The introduction of the partitioned area also reflects efforts to make public transport more responsive to the needs of different passenger groups. A dedicated space can help reduce discomfort caused by overcrowding and provide female passengers with greater confidence while using the service.

However, the effectiveness of the initiative will largely depend on proper implementation and enforcement. Ensuring that the reserved area remains available to women and children, particularly during busy periods, will be important for achieving the intended results.

Passengers will also play a role in making the arrangement successful by respecting the designated space and following the guidelines displayed inside the buses.

The new facility represents another step toward improving public transport services in the twin cities. If properly maintained and enforced, the dedicated section could make everyday Metrobus journeys more convenient and comfortable for women and children.
