Pakistan have finally ended their long wait for an away Test victory, defeating the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test at Port of Spain to level the two-match series 1-1.
The victory was particularly significant as it ended Pakistan’s eight consecutive Test defeats away from home, a run that had lasted since their previous overseas Test victory in 2023.
Pakistan produced a much-improved all-round performance after losing the opening Test by 90 runs. The visitors first secured a valuable lead after scoring 387 in their first innings, with Abdullah Shafique playing a crucial role with a superb 160.
Their bowlers then took control in the second innings, dismissing the West Indies for just 117 runs. Sajid Khan was among the leading performers with four wickets, while Pakistan’s bowling attack kept constant pressure on the hosts.
Chasing only 75 runs for victory, Pakistan reached the target comfortably at 77 for two, completing an eight-wicket win. Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 24, while Abdullah Shafique finished unbeaten on 24.
The result also gives Pakistan a major confidence boost after a difficult period in overseas Test cricket. It ends their three-year wait for an away Test win and allows them to return home with the series level.
The victory is another important moment for Pakistan as the team looks to rebuild its Test fortunes and become more competitive in challenging overseas conditions.
