Punjab is preparing to hold the Basant festival again in February 2027, following the return of the traditional kite-flying celebration in Lahore earlier this year.
Authorities have already begun preparations for next year’s event, with plans focused on improving organisation and ensuring that kites, strings and other festival supplies are available in sufficient quantities. Officials are also working to keep prices under control so that the celebrations remain accessible to the public.
The proposed revival comes after Basant returned to Lahore under regulated conditions, marking a significant moment for a festival that has long been associated with Punjab’s cultural heritage.
For the 2027 celebrations, authorities are expected to place greater emphasis on safety, regulation and effective management. The objective is to allow citizens to enjoy kite flying while reducing risks and ensuring compliance with the rules governing the festival.
The government’s preparations also aim to prevent shortages and unnecessary price increases by planning supplies ahead of time. Better coordination among relevant departments is expected to help ensure that the festival takes place in an organised manner.
Basant has traditionally attracted large crowds and brought a festive atmosphere to Lahore, with colourful kites filling the skies and families participating in celebrations. The planned 2027 event is expected to build on the festival’s recent return while promoting a safer and more controlled Basant experience.
If preparations remain on track, February 2027 could mark another major chapter in the revival of one of Punjab’s most recognised cultural traditions.
