More than 317,000 Pakistanis travelled abroad for employment during the first half of 2026, highlighting the growing number of workers seeking better job opportunities outside the country.
The trend reflects concerns over unemployment, inflation and economic conditions in Pakistan. Many workers are looking towards international markets for higher salaries, improved career opportunities and better financial stability.
Saudi Arabia remained the leading destination for Pakistani workers during the period, receiving around 183,951 workers. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked second with 50,773 Pakistani workers, while Qatar received approximately 34,025.
The workers leaving Pakistan included people from a wide range of professional and technical backgrounds. Among them were doctors, engineers, IT professionals, technicians and other skilled workers.
The figures show the important role overseas employment continues to play in Pakistan’s workforce. Pakistani workers have long travelled to Gulf countries and other international destinations in search of employment, particularly in sectors where demand for skilled and technical workers remains strong.
The increasing number of workers moving abroad also reflects the pressure many Pakistani households face due to rising living costs and limited employment opportunities. For skilled professionals, international jobs can provide access to better salaries and opportunities for career growth.
At the same time, the departure of qualified professionals highlights the need for greater employment opportunities within Pakistan. Creating more jobs, supporting businesses and improving working conditions could encourage skilled workers to build their careers domestically.
The overseas employment trend is expected to remain an important part of Pakistan’s economy, with workers abroad also contributing to the country through remittances sent to their families.
