The Punjab government has approved seven road packages under its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programme, taking another step toward improving road infrastructure and accelerating development across the province. The approval was given during the fifth meeting of the Punjab Public-Private Partnership Authority in Lahore, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.
Under the approved arrangements, private-sector bidders will be responsible for constructing and rehabilitating provincial roads, while also managing and maintaining the projects for seven years. The private partners will share profits with the Punjab government under the agreed PPP framework.
The initiative is aimed at bringing greater private-sector participation into Punjab’s infrastructure development while improving the quality and long-term management of provincial roads. Punjab’s Communication and Works Department is already advancing several road-sector PPP projects, including road operation and maintenance packages and the Chiniot-Sargodha road project.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said the Punjab government’s focus on collaboration with the private sector could help accelerate development while ensuring projects are completed on time and without compromising quality.
The meeting also approved amendments to the bid evaluation mechanism to improve transparency. In addition, officials endorsed a PPP initiative for the local production of foot-and-mouth disease vaccines and reviewed plans concerning the transformation of livestock farms.
The approval of the seven road packages reflects Punjab’s broader effort to use PPP financing and expertise to upgrade infrastructure while reducing reliance on conventional public-sector development models.
