India’s hopes of receiving the men’s and women’s Asia Cup trophies soon appear to have faded, as both pieces of silverware remain in Pakistan, according to reports citing sources familiar with the matter.
The trophies are currently with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Sources said the trophies will remain in Pakistan until the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agrees to receive them from Naqvi.
The issue began after India’s men’s team won the 2025 Asia Cup but declined to collect the trophy from Naqvi during the presentation ceremony. A similar situation occurred after India’s women’s team won the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup, with the team also not accepting the trophy from the ACC president.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia recently said that both trophies would eventually reach the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. However, he did not provide a specific timeline for their arrival.
The latest reports indicate that no immediate handover has been agreed. Until an arrangement is reached, both Asia Cup trophies are expected to remain in Pakistan.
The unusual trophy dispute has attracted considerable attention in cricket circles, adding another chapter to the ongoing tensions surrounding cricketing relations between India and Pakistan.
For now, the status of the trophies remains unresolved, with the BCCI saying they will eventually return to India while reports indicate that the handover has not yet been arranged.
