British-Pakistani consultant gynaecologist and robotic surgeon Dr Amer Raza has achieved a major milestone in the United Kingdom after his team completed more than 400 single-port robotic gynaecological procedures at Cromwell Hospital in London.
A graduate of Nishtar Medical College, Multan, Dr Raza is the Lead Consultant for Endometriosis and Robotic Surgery at Cromwell Hospital. Under his leadership, the programme has expanded the use of single-port robotic technology from routine gynaecological procedures to highly complex endometriosis operations.
Unlike conventional multi-port robotic surgery, the single-port technique allows the camera and robotic instruments to be introduced through a single entry point. The approach is being used for complex minimally invasive gynaecological procedures, including surgery for endometriosis.
The programme has also become a training and observation centre, with more than 100 surgeons from the UK and abroad visiting to observe complex procedures and learn about the technology.
Dr Raza has received two Master Surgeon accreditations in Robotic Surgery and Advanced Endometriosis Care from the US-based Surgical Review Corporation following an external assessment of his surgical practice and patient-care standards.
The latest achievement adds to his previous record in London, where he led a team that performed 12 major gynaecological operations in a single day three years ago.
Dr Raza has also maintained professional links with Pakistan and has expressed plans to share his experience in advanced robotic surgery and medical training with healthcare professionals in the country.
