The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather advisory, warning that heavy monsoon rains are expected to affect several parts of Pakistan from July 10 to 13. Authorities have urged provincial governments, local administrations, and the public to remain alert as the risk of urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides increases during this period.
According to the advisory, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Low-lying urban areas may experience water accumulation, while hilly regions face an elevated threat of landslides and road blockages.
The NDMA has warned that rivers, streams, and seasonal nullahs could witness a sharp rise in water levels, particularly in areas already saturated by earlier rainfall. Residents living near vulnerable waterways have been advised to remain cautious and follow evacuation instructions if required.
The authority has directed all relevant departments to keep emergency response teams, rescue personnel, and relief equipment on standby. Local administrations have also been instructed to monitor flood-prone areas, ensure drainage systems remain functional, and respond quickly to any weather-related emergencies.
Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, especially in mountainous regions where landslides may disrupt traffic. Motorists should exercise caution on slippery roads, while tourists are encouraged to check weather updates before planning trips to northern destinations.
The NDMA has also encouraged the public to stay informed through official weather forecasts and emergency alerts. People are urged to secure loose outdoor items, protect important belongings, and report emergencies to the relevant authorities without delay.
Officials emphasize that timely precautions and public cooperation can significantly reduce the impact of severe weather. By remaining vigilant and following safety guidelines, communities across Pakistan can better protect lives and property during the ongoing monsoon season.
