Pakistan’s proposed M-10 Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway is expected to require an investment of more than $400 million, with the government targeting completion of the project by 2028.

Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Communications Gul Asghar Khan informed the National Assembly that the project has been given high priority as the government seeks to establish a new, direct motorway connection between Karachi and Hyderabad.

The M-10 project has faced delays for almost three decades, mainly because of financing challenges. To make the project easier to finance and attract investors, the government has divided it into five sections, each covering roughly 50 kilometres.

All five sections have been offered internationally to attract investment. According to the government, three sections have secured financing through different arrangements, including support from the Islamic Development Bank. The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has also expressed interest in two sections.

The feasibility work for the new M-10 has been completed. The planned motorway will follow a new alignment designed to provide a more direct connection between Karachi and Hyderabad.

The government has clarified that the existing M-9 motorway will continue to operate as an expressway, while the proposed M-10 will provide a separate direct motorway link between the two major cities.

The project is expected to improve road connectivity between Karachi and Hyderabad, support the movement of passengers and goods, and potentially strengthen trade and economic activity in Sindh.

Authorities expect all five sections of the M-10 to be completed by 2028, subject to financing, procurement and construction progress.
