Overseas Pakistani Declared Dead in NADRA Records Returns to Pakistan

by Mahnoor Arif

An overseas Pakistani man, Imran Malik, was shocked to discover that he had been officially declared dead in Pakistan while he was still alive. Malik returned to Pakistan after spending four years abroad and learned that his name was listed as deceased in NADRA records since April 2024.

According to reports, Imran Malik’s own family members allegedly declared him dead to take control of his property. When he arrived in Pakistan, officials informed him that his CNIC had been blocked and his legal status showed that he had passed away. This created serious problems for him, as he could not access basic rights, including identification, banking, or legal services.

Imran Malik has now approached the Sindh High Court to seek justice and restoration of his identity. He has stated that being declared dead while alive has caused him emotional stress, social trouble, and financial loss. The court took notice of the case and issued formal notices to NADRA and other relevant authorities, asking them to submit their replies within four weeks.

A criminal FIR has also been registered against the family members involved in the alleged fraud. Legal experts say that falsely declaring someone dead is a serious crime, especially when it is done to illegally claim property or assets.

This case has raised serious questions about the misuse of official systems and the safety of citizens’ identity records. Many people on social media have expressed concern and called for stricter checks within NADRA to prevent such incidents.

The court is expected to review the matter carefully. If proven, the case may lead to strong legal action and reforms to protect citizens from identity misuse.
