Punjab Unveils Plan for 10,000 Electric Rental Bikes Across Lahore

by Mahnoor Arif

The Punjab government has announced an exciting new project to introduce Lahore’s first public electric bike rental service. In the initial phase, 10,000 electric bikes will be deployed across the city along with 300 docking and charging stations. This initiative aims to provide affordable, modern, and eco-friendly transport to citizens.

Users will rent bikes easily through a mobile app. The service will improve connectivity between residential areas, markets, offices, universities, and public transport hubs like metro stations. Officials say it will make daily commuting cheaper and more convenient, especially for students, employees, and ordinary people.

The project is expected to bring many benefits. It will help reduce traffic congestion, lower fuel costs, cut carbon emissions, and fight the severe smog problem in Lahore. Electric bikes produce no smoke and are quiet, making the city cleaner and healthier.

The Punjab Housing Authority will provide land for stations. The project will be implemented with support from the Transport Department, Lahore Parking Company (LePark), Safe City authorities, and other agencies. It will be launched in phases to ensure smooth operation.

This step shows the government’s focus on green and sustainable urban mobility. If successful, the service could expand to other cities in Punjab. People are hopeful it will ease daily travel problems and support a cleaner environment.
