Punjab Likely to Present Rs. 6 Trillion Budget Plan

by Mahnoor Arif

The Punjab government is preparing a record Rs6 trillion budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s administration is focusing on development, industrial growth, and better public services. Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman is expected to present the budget soon, possibly on June 12.

Sources say around Rs1.45 trillion will be set aside for development projects. This includes major work on transport, roads, education, health, clean water, and urban services. The Annual Development Programme (ADP) aims to build new assets and improve living standards across the province.

A special Rs100 billion package is planned to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and industries. This will offer concessional loans, subsidies, and help to the manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and agro-processing sectors. The goal is to boost investment, exports, and create more jobs.

Transport projects remain a top priority. Proposals include new metro corridors in Lahore, such as the Blue Line and Purple Line. These will expand the mass transit network and ease traffic problems in the city.

The budget also supports welfare schemes like the laptop programme and other initiatives by CM Maryam Nawaz. It aims to promote economic growth, better connectivity, and employment opportunities for the people of Punjab.
