Ewing Hall in Lahore to Be Restored as Heritage Building

by Mahnoor Arif

The Lahore Heritage Areas Revival (LHAR) Board has made it clear that historic Ewing Hall in Anarkali will be preserved and restored as a heritage building instead of being demolished. This statement came after public concern and protests regarding the future of the iconic structure linked to Forman Christian College (FCCU).

The board explained that the decision followed a proper legal process. Ewing Hall had remained unused for many years, and outstanding rent dues had crossed Rs107 million. Despite repeated reminders, the dues were not cleared, leading to government action to take control of the property.

Officials stressed that the main goal is to protect Lahore’s rich cultural heritage. The building will be brought back to its original architectural glory through careful restoration work. This fits with broader efforts to revive historic sites in the walled city and Anarkali area.

The LHAR Board promised full transparency during the entire process and respect for all stakeholders, including Forman Christian College and local communities. FCCU had raised objections over the sudden takeover, claiming a long-term lease, but the government maintains the move is legal and necessary for conservation.

This development has calmed many worried citizens and heritage lovers who feared the loss of another historic landmark. Successful restoration of Ewing Hall will add value to Lahore’s tourism and cultural identity while setting a positive example for protecting other old buildings.
