Maryum Nawaz Announces 2 Million Compensation for Families of Children Killed in Roof Collapse Incident

A heartbreaking tragedy struck Lahore on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, when at least 14 children lost their lives and 20 others were injured after the roof of a private tuition centre collapsed in the Kahna Nau area.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced Rs2 million in financial assistance for the families of children who lost their lives in the tragic roof collapse incident that occurred during heavy rains.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of young lives, the chief minister described the incident as heartbreaking and said she shared the pain of the grieving families as a mother. She directed the police and district administration to identify those responsible and ensure legal action is taken without delay.

Following the incident, authorities arrested the building contractor, while two other people, including the owner of the building, were taken into custody as investigations continued.

An emergency was declared at Lahore General Hospital, where injured children received immediate medical treatment. The Punjab government also instructed health officials to provide the best possible care to all those injured.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed condolences to the affected families. Both leaders stressed the need for stricter building safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The Punjab government said it would continue to support the affected families while ensuring those found responsible are held accountable under the law.
