The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken action against a warehouse in Lahore after finding a large quantity of expired and unsafe food products.
During a raid in the Attari area of Nishtar Town, PFA officials discovered 5.5 tonnes of expired food worth around Rs20 million. The authority destroyed the products and sealed the warehouse over serious food safety violations.
The seized items included expired chia seeds, chana papri, corn flour and other food products. Officials also found around 400 kilograms of unhygienic meat at the facility.
The inspection revealed several problems, including missing supply records and other required documents. Officials also found that some food labels had not been approved by the authority.
The warehouse reportedly had insects and rodent droppings on storage racks, raising further concerns about hygiene. Previous instructions issued to improve food safety had also not been followed.
The PFA imposed a Rs1 million fine on the warehouse administration and ordered the immediate closure of the facility.
Officials said the warehouse was supplying food to customers across Pakistan through online orders. The PFA said strict action would continue against businesses involved in selling or distributing expired and unsafe food.
The operation highlights the importance of proper storage, labeling and expiry checks to protect consumers from potentially harmful food products.
