Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has awarded a CM Merit Badge to Special Assistant Shoaib Mirza, recognising his dedication and hands-on work during recent flood emergencies in Punjab.
Shoaib Mirza supervised rescue and relief operations for seven consecutive days after floodwater inundated villages in Muridke and Ferozewala. He remained in the affected areas and personally monitored efforts to help residents facing the emergency.
Under his supervision, hundreds of flood-affected people were rescued and moved to safer locations. He also helped ensure that displaced families received accommodation, food, medicines and other essential facilities.
The recognition comes as Punjab continues to strengthen its response to heavy monsoon rains, urban flooding and water-drainage challenges. CM Maryam Nawaz has repeatedly directed officials to ensure the swift drainage of rainwater and floodwater and to remain present in the field during emergencies.
During the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz personally pinned the merit badge on Shoaib Mirza and praised his commitment to public service. She said officials should not remain confined to their offices when people are facing difficulties, but should personally stand with affected communities.
The award recognises Shoaib’s efforts during a difficult period and highlights the importance of quick field response when flooding threatens communities.
