Luxus Hunza Attabad Lake Resort, a well-known tourist property beside Attabad Lake in Gilgit-Baltistan, is reportedly being demolished following damage and safety concerns in the area.
According to a report published on October 2, 2026, the resort was badly affected by a flash flood in June 2025. The incident brought large amounts of mud and debris onto the property and forced around 150 guests and staff members to evacuate by boat.
The resort had also faced environmental scrutiny in 2025 after a viral video alleged that wastewater was being discharged into Attabad Lake. Following an inspection, the Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency fined the resort Rs1.5 million and sealed part of the facility. The resort denied the allegations and said the discoloured water was caused by natural glacial sediment rather than sewage.
The latest demolition claim, however, has not yet been confirmed by a reliable official source, according to the latest report. This means it should currently be treated as a report rather than a confirmed government demolition order.
The development comes amid wider environmental concerns surrounding rapid hotel construction around Gilgit-Baltistan’s lakes. In 2025, authorities announced restrictions on new hotel construction around tourist lakes amid concerns over environmental pressure and unregulated development.
Luxus Hunza remains a prominent landmark on the Attabad Lake tourism scene, making any confirmed decision about the property significant for the region’s hospitality industry.
