Pakistan’s freelance industry is growing very fast and is now close to the $1 billion mark. According to the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistani freelancers earned USD 985 million in the fiscal year 2025. This is nearly three times higher than what they earned just three years ago.
This impressive growth shows the power of Pakistan’s young digital workforce. Most freelancers are under 30 years old. They work from home and provide services to international clients in areas like graphic design, programming, content writing, digital marketing, and video editing.
Despite this success, freelancers continue to face serious problems. The biggest issue is the absence of PayPal in Pakistan. They have to depend on alternative payment methods such as Payoneer, Wise, and bank transfers, which charge higher fees and take more time. Many also complain about complicated tax rules and inconsistent government policies.
Experts say that if Pakistan provides better payment solutions and easier regulations, the freelance sector can grow even faster and cross the $1 billion target soon. The government is being urged to introduce freelancer-friendly policies so that young Pakistanis can earn more foreign money without unnecessary hurdles.
This growing sector is becoming an important part of Pakistan’s economy and a key source of foreign income.
