Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Khan Afridi has been awarded the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his outstanding services to cricket and the country. The award was presented by President Asif Ali Zardari during a special ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadar.
Hilal-e-Imtiaz is one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards and is given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions in their respective fields. Afridi received the honor for his achievements in international cricket and his role in promoting Pakistan’s image worldwide.
Known for his aggressive batting style and match-winning performances, Afridi represented Pakistan in all formats of cricket for more than two decades. He remains one of the most popular cricketers in the country’s history. Afridi also captained the national team in various international tournaments, including the ICC Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup.
During his career, Afridi set several records, including one of the fastest centuries in One Day International cricket. Apart from sports, he is also involved in charity work through the Shahid Afridi Foundation, which supports health care and education projects across Pakistan.
